Midwifery Office - Prescott, Arizona

What is a Licensed Midwife?

A licensed midwife is a trained professional who provides health care for a woman and her newborn baby throughout the childbearing cycle.

Traditionally, midwives are known for their comforting, gentle support of the birthing mother. Today, midwives strive to combine these caring attitudes with the technical information currently available in order to provide families with an alternative that is both safe and personally satisfying.

Midwives feel that pregnancy and birth are normal, healthy events in the female life cycle. A basic responsibility of the midwife is to facilitate the healthy progression through pregnancy, birth and parenting, while guarding against complications.

Why Choose to Homebirth?

  • Less Pain - Hospital environments may contribute to feelings of fear and stimulate production of adrenaline. This will inhibit release of oxytocin and endorphins slowing down labor and increasing pain.   Being at home allows you to move about freely and get into comfortable positions as you go through labor.

  • More Personal Control -  The hospital's need for efficiency may take precedent over your body's own natural process. At home, you will be in charge!  Choose who you would like present at the birth of your child.

  • Greater Support -  Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home and being surrounded by the loving support of family and friends.  Your Midwife will be present during the entire birthing process.

  • Increased Bonding - You will be in immediate contact with your baby and will not be separated as often occurs in hospitals.  Breastfeeding is encouraged and more likely to be successful because your baby is more alert.
